In the last century, when the foundations of the Turkish Republic were laid, reforms were implemented in various fields, including science, education, literature, and art, that would ennoble society and produce valuable individuals. The valuable artists who emerged in this century have inspired the world and left a lasting impact on society. In this century, our music was reinterpreted and enriched according to the tastes of the new Republican Turkey, drawing strength from the rich sounds of its roots.
The ‘new music’ sung by the great artists of the Republican era, such as Safiye Ayla, Münir Nurettin Selçuk, Refik Fersan, Muhlis Sebahattin Ezgi, and Neveser Kökdeş, was the inspiration for this concert.
The ‘Last Century’ team interprets the works, which are handled with small arrangements, by adopting the quartet idea stylistically, from a new perspective with their instruments. Their approach is not nostalgic or academic. It is more accurate to say that it is a reinterpretation of wonderful music according to today’s taste.
