Selda Öztürk has distilled and thoughtfully cultivated her extensive experience, research, and studies. Now, through her interpretation, we are able to listen to the music of this vast and ancient geography.
Selda Öztürk is a musician and academic who was raised with traditional music and began her career with the Kardeş Türküler project in 1993. Specializing in vocals and percussion instruments, she has a rich performance history that includes solo concerts as well as international projects. Öztürk, who crafts her repertoire by drawing inspiration from female dengbêjs and the legendary female soloists of Arabic music, holds a PhD in Musicology and Music Theory from Istanbul Technical University. Alongside her contributions to social projects through music workshops she organizes for migrant women and children, she conducts workshops and lectures in Turkey and abroad with RitimKolektif, which she co-founded.
